What is ImgKit's manual photo editing service?

ImgKit's manual photo editing service connects you with a human editor who retouches your photos by hand and emails the finished files to your inbox. It is the right choice when automated tools cannot get the result you want — complex background or object removal, detailed portrait retouching, colour correction, or restoring old and damaged photos.

How the manual photo editing service works

Three steps from upload to finished photos. No app to install, no queue to wait in.

  1. 1

    Describe the edits

Enter your email and tell us what to fix — background removal, retouching, colour correction, or restoring a photo.

  2. 2

    Upload your photos

Add up to 10 images (JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, HEIC), each up to 25 MB.

  3. 3

    Pay and submit

Pay once through Stripe. Our editor retouches the photos by hand and emails the finished result to your inbox.

What our editors can fix

Tell us what you need. Common requests include:

  • Background removal & replacement

Cut out tricky backgrounds that automatic tools miss, or drop in a new one.

  • Object & people removal

Erase distractions, stray objects, or unwanted people from a scene.

  • Portrait & skin retouching

Soften skin, brighten eyes, whiten teeth, and tidy hair without looking fake.

  • Colour correction

Fix exposure, white balance, and faded or uneven colour.

  • Old-photo restoration

Repair creases, stains, and scratches, and bring faded memories back to life.

  • Sharpen & upscale

Prepare low-resolution photos for crisp prints.

  • Photo compositing

Combine several photos into one clean composition.

  • Text & watermark cleanup

Remove or add text, dates, and logos.

Manual editing vs. self-serve tools

ImgKit also offers free browser tools that edit images automatically. Use them for routine fixes; choose the manual service when the result needs a human eye.

Use the free browser tools when…

  • You need a quick, automatic fix (enhance, compress, crop, convert).
  • The edit is routine and the result is predictable.
  • You want it done instantly, in your browser, for free.

Use the manual service when…

  • The background or object is complex and auto-tools leave artifacts.
  • You need natural portrait or skin retouching.
  • You are restoring old or damaged photos.
  • You want several specific, subjective changes in one go.

Manual photo editing FAQ

How does the ImgKit manual photo editing service work?

Upload your photos, describe the edits you want, and pay once at checkout. A human editor retouches the images by hand and emails the finished files to your inbox — usually within a few business days.

What kinds of edits can the editing team do?

Background removal or replacement, object and people removal, portrait and skin retouching, colour correction and exposure fixes, old-photo restoration, sharpening and upscaling for print, and combining several photos into one composition.

What file types and sizes can I upload?

JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, or HEIC files up to 25 MB each, with up to 10 photos per order.

How is this different from the free browser tools?

The browser tools (photo enhancer, background remover, watermark remover) handle routine edits automatically and instantly. The manual service is for edits those tools cannot do well — complex backgrounds, precise object removal, detailed retouching, or restoring damaged photos.

How long does manual editing take?

Most orders are returned within a few business days. Very complex or high-volume orders may take longer, and we will let you know if that is the case.

Is my photo kept private?

Your photos are shared only with the editing team to fulfil your order. They are not published, sold, or used for training, and are removed after delivery unless you ask us to keep them.
